Finishing up "Project Mock-up" (Week 2)

Week 2, and life decides to blindside me already... I'm already falling behind my schedule! I finally got the Hi-Mock fully built, though. It's still a bit rough with all the sanding marks, but hopefully, with a nice coat of primer/surfacer, it should look pretty good.

Hi-Mock is ready for action!

While I was at it, I decided to try and use my spraybooth as a light box, just due to the built in led strips. It was a struggle, and it was pretty much not worth the effort. Still, beats just having a window or the spray booth as a background, for the time being anyways. With this Hi-Mock being a testing ground and a learning opportunity for my airbrushing, I figured, "Let's go with a 'test type' paintjob!" Lo and behold, someone's already done something that perfectly captures what I wanted to try.

This is a fantastically done paintjob, with great choices for color separation and excellent use of the yellow and black caution stripes. And of course, a model kit really shines with great posing, and this one was a home run! Last year, I had a really hard time with "copying" someone's work, either intentionally or simply by coincidence. So, let me just go ahead and say it now: I'm going to take this as an inspiration and use as a stepping stone for me to improve. Great ideas are bound to overlap (not saying I have great ideas) and I don't particularly see an issue with imitating a style when starting out.

This week's goal is to at least get the kit primed and refined, if not actually laying down some coats of color. And, this year's goal is to stop being afraid of making mistakes! I've shelved so many projects because I was afraid what I was doing wasn't good enough, or I would ruin the kit. I'm done letting my fear hold me back from learning and growing as a builder, so I'm going in head first on my kits! I think I may finally have a game plan for my MG Zaku II, so keep an eye out for that when I do get to it!

That's it for this (late) week! Time to Gouf around and see what comes out of it!
Hi-Mock off to get some work done!
